Focus areas

Our community focus is built on four pillars that represent the Strategy as Practice and shared logic of how science and practice work together:

Pillar 1: Practices of openness and inclusion  (The "How"): Strategy is built on shared tools, norms, and procedures—from analytical frameworks to discursive legitimation. Our interest in science and practice is how these practices can enable inclusion rather than just constrain action. We break down traditional closed-door silos by researching and sharing models where employees, partners, and customers participate in the strategic process.

Pillar 2: Praxis (The "Where"): Strategy happens in episodes —the actual work and meetings within collaborative ecosystems. We are interested in the micro-details of this strategizing to understand how collective action emerges for example, in community meetups.  Led by a synergy between three Finnish universities, we are keen to learn how communal synergy will be created in cross-organizational networks.

Pillar 3: Practitioners (The "Who"): Strategy is not just for top management; it involves a diverse web of actors. Open strategy community is particularly keen to to understand more of employees role as they interpret and contributed to  strategy. In our open strategy community building, we believe strategy is only successful if it results in meaningful experiences, combining science-practice design with a twist of strategic planning.

We also maintain a Community Feed featuring joint events, cross-university publications, and in the future plan unofficial working groups where external partners can join specific research tracks.
